The Powerful Qualities of Moveable Print

The Powerful Qualities of Moveable Print

Paper pop-ups, dimensional print, moveable print, lumpy mail all give a certain joy, a certain enchantment when you see a piece of paper that is made into something three dimensional.  Someone playing with a pop-up or moveable print piece often thinks

When you send a moveable print promotion to a database, those people often keep it on their desk. Work collegues or clients walk are curious when they walk in their office and see it. They may say, “Hey what's that?”. Then the person who received the promotion, your initial prospect, may pick it up saying

“How did they make that? How does it move? Can I play with it?”

People pick a print promotion up and move it, play with it. They put it down, then pick it up again and play with it, move it some more. It captivates attention.

Moveable print

Moveable print that is a pop-up or dimensional print promotion has a much longer life than a plain old business card or a plain old piece of direct mail because people are intrigued by it. People tend to keep it on the desk. I've had many people that I've given promotions to that I've spoken to six months later and they still have the promotion sitting on their desk. By adding this sense of play, being moveable or three-dimensional adds longevity to your marketing messages. It also increases its reach.

“Oh yeah, I'll tell you who I got it from: it was… their product is… this is what their services are…” Suddenly you have your prospect playing with the promotion and acting as your salesperson for you, as an advocate for you. And they're doing selling for you.

I love that about print. it works hard for you.

It engages. Prospects play with it.

They re-read the messaging.

In this way a print promotion can have a life, way

beyond your initial prospect to reach much further

than you originally expected.

Book Review of Ed Catmul's Creativity, Inc.

There are many books on creativity from an artist’s point of view. However, there are few books that approach creativity from the point of view of managers of creative businesses. Ed Catmul, President of Pixar animation and Disney Animation, dives in with gusto.

This is a readable and insightful guide for managers of creative teams, such as in advertising agencies, design and digital studios.  How do you build and sustain a business culture that supports creativity on an ongoing repeatable basis?  Ed describes both the structures and processes Pixar set up, and the mental frameworks his team members use to make sense of the creative process. I kept thinking of places I have worked when reading his words.
