Custom Artist’s Journal with Leather Cover (Make your own)

Have you ever wanted to make a unique an artist’s journal ?

 Create a ttravel diary with its own character? An or sketchbook with specific papers in it? Here is a chance to make your own. We are using a simple binding so absolute beginners are very welcome.

In this workshop,you can choose a cover from the range of leather and suede provided. Next, for the inside or text pages,  you can bring your choice of specialty papers for pastel, watercolour, or drawing, in white grey or black. To add character, you can choose from the coloured papers provided for at the front and back of your book.  If you wish, you can bring two artworks on paper, or patterned papers instead.


Then, I will talk you through planning your journal, cutting the covers, folding the papers accurately, piercing sections and binding it all together. All tools and equipment supplied. Art journals can be A5 or A4. A list of optional materials is given when registering.

We will cover:

·         Understanding how all the parts of the book go together

·         Creating a template to piece holes in the text pages and cover

·         Learning to bind the book with pamphlet stitch

·         Learn to use the tools and materials: a bone folder, craft knife, needle.

·         Understand the choices for the papers in your book

·         learn about the grain direction of paper

·         Design the shape of the wrapped cover (Italian style)
